Week of Languages: activities

‘Speaking and learning languages harnesses both the emotions and the brain. As well as boosting brain power and connecting people, learning languages facilitates the exchange of ideas, emotions, and experiences – strengthening empathy and respect for different ways of life and as such is a powerful tool to promote world peace. At The Grey Coat Hospital we celebrate the linguistic diversity and curiosity to learn which makes our community so strong’.

Here’s a list of activities run during the’ European Week of Languages’ celebrated at the school. Significantly, teachers AND pupils run the sessions.

Departments are also getting involved:

  • Art & Design + Maths: Geometry – ‘Design a Tile’ (see separate activity on this site)
  • Music: the Italian used in music instruction – con brio!
  • History: a great starter on the language of Vikings and Scots to coincide with their curriculum at KS3

Inspiring! Thank you for sharing this, Catherine Ames!
