‘Speaking and learning languages harnesses both the emotions and the brain. As well as boosting brain power and connecting people, learning languages facilitates the exchange of ideas, emotions, and experiences – strengthening empathy and respect for different ways of life and as such is a powerful tool to promote world peace. At The Grey Coat Hospital we celebrate the linguistic diversity and curiosity to learn which makes our community so strong’.
Here’s a list of activities run during the’ European Week of Languages’ celebrated at the school. Significantly, teachers AND pupils run the sessions.
Departments are also getting involved:
- Art & Design + Maths: Geometry – ‘Design a Tile’ (see separate activity on this site)
- Music: the Italian used in music instruction – con brio!
- History: a great starter on the language of Vikings and Scots to coincide with their curriculum at KS3
Inspiring! Thank you for sharing this, Catherine Ames!
