  • London Festival of Languages 26: Poster competition

London: City of Languages is coordinating a ‘London Festival of Languages 2026’. The Festival will include a wide variety of activities, both online and face to face, when we can celebrate the rich diversity of languages used, studied, and loved across our city.

To advertise this, we need a set of posters to display in schools, cultural organisations and public spaces (e.g. libraries) to encourage people to go to our Festival of Languages Page on the website to find out what is on offer.

We invite pupils across London to design posters. Winning posters will be shared online and made available for schools and communities to download and use during the Summer Festival of Languages.

Sere more details and upload entries on our activity page here.

  • St Mary’s University Modern Language Poetry Live event

Competition – Poetry Live … en français, auf deutsch, en español

    By invitation.

    What is it?
Poetry Live is a competition, organised and hosted by St Mary’s University, for Year 8 pupils from schools who regularly host St Mary’s trainee teachers on placement.  The focus is on spoken poetry performance in French, German and Spanish. There are three main aims of the competition:
    • To celebrate language learning for pleasure and challenge
    • To develop memorisation and pronunciation skills
    • To explore literature and culture through poetry in another language
We have identified Year 8 pupils for this competition to motivate and encourage them at a crucial stage in their language learning. Please note that the competition is aimed at non-native speakers of the language.
