17.12.25. Congratulations to Elizabeth for being a winner in the Logo competition.

How did you create your logo, Elizabeth?
” When creating the logo, I almost instantly thought of the famous landmark Tower Bridge. At first glance, the bridge just connects two sides of the river but it also brings people together, connecting languages and different cultures, Giving the logo more thought, the river became a good symbol as it continues to constantly flow, the same way languages flow throughout the whole city.”
Thank you Elizabeth – beautifully expressed!
Madame Memou, how do you feel about Elizabeth’s award?
“I am very proud that Elizabeth is one of the two winners of the London: City of languages competition! It is a huge accomplishment and I am so happy for her! Her creation reflects the heart of what we strive to do as languages teachers: nurturing communication, creating meaningful connections, and opening our students’ eyes to a different view of the world. There’s a unique strength in learning and speaking a language; it is far more than words; it carries culture, meaning, and the beauty to create bonds. And that is powerful!“
We also commended other entries.

Rose (on the left in this photo) told us what was in her mind as she designed her logo:
” Three words that came through my head when designing my logo was unity, respect and bridge. Language is important to me as when I practise Irish, it makes me feel closer to my family. it also bridges people closer together.”
Another commended entrant was Anaiya. Here’s her inspiration:
“Speaking, Diversity, Countries, Universal, Communication are behind my poster idea.”

It was great to meet the lively, enthusiastic and articulate 6th formers who attended the awards ceremony and are putting the finishing touches to their new Student Voice magazine. We look forward to sharing their work more widely here. Here they are with proud Joint HOD Ms Wilkinson holding newly-acquired red Association for Language Learning notebooks!

You can hear their infectious enthusiasm in this audio clip where they talk about the value of languages for them: (unphased it seems by the exciting sound of tables being put up in the hall!)
Congratulations to the staff for inspiring these lovely young people: (Left to to right) Ms Pepe, Mr Romero, Ms Memou [Joint HOD}, Ms Staniford, [Helen Myers + Nick Mair were presenting the awards], Ms Wilkinson [Joint HOD].

And finally, thanks to Headteacher, Ms Boyle, who welcomed us so warmly and gave a clear endorsement for languages in her introduction. She must be proud of her students and her teachers!
