SUMMARY:London Festival of Languages 26: Poster competition
DESCRIPTION:London: City of Languages is coordinating a ‘London Festival of Languages 2026’. The Festival will include a wide variety of activities\, both online and face to face\, when we can celebrate the rich diversity of languages used\, studied\, and loved across our city. \nTo advertise this\, we need a set of posters to display in schools\, cultural organisations and public spaces (e.g. libraries) to encourage people to go to our Festival of Languages Page on the website to find out what is on offer. \nWe invite pupils across London to design posters. Winning posters will be shared online and made available for schools and communities to download and use during the Summer Festival of Languages. \nSere more details and upload entries on our activity page here.

SUMMARY:Goethe Institut: Creating the world of Wuschel
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition of Axel Scheffler’s original sketches and illustrations for Wuschel auf der Erde\n\nIn this exhibition\, visitors are invited into the imaginative world of Axel Scheffler through a series of original illustrations. Known to many for iconic works such as The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom\, Axel here reveals his work created for Wuschel auf der Erde\, the Goethe-Institut’s primary German textbook published in autumn 2024.\n\nAlready part of the learning journey of more than 3\,600 young language enthusiasts across the UK\, the book introduces Wuschel and Miki—two new characters whose universe is both fantastical and warmly familiar.\n\nPresented together for the first time are early character studies\, developmental sketches\, and final artworks that illuminate Axel’s distinctive creative process. The evolution of these images—along with the typography and visual language that accompany them—offers an intimate glimpse behind the scenes. What emerges isa vibrant constellation of creatures\, forms\, and ideas\, each stage revealing the careful shaping of a world designed to spark curiosity\, delight\, and linguistic discovery

SUMMARY:A taste of … Cockney!
DESCRIPTION:Cockney has long provided the soundtrack to London life. Modern Cockney challenges the idea that “Cockney is dying” by showing how it continues to evolve as a vibrant cultural community -one that embraces diverse backgrounds\, cultures\, and beliefs. It offers a powerful voice for overcoming adversity\, tackling social prejudice\, and building togetherness among all who share an affinity with non-posh Londoners. Come along to learn to speak like a Londoner and learn some Cockney rhyming slang! \nThis session will be presented by Clive Bennett\, Pearly King of Woolwich\, and Andy Green\, co-founder for the Modern Cockney Festival. \nThis free event for adults will be held online using Microsoft Teams.  Click here to register. \nImages from LinkedIn and Warwick University.
