Sylheti is spoken by an estimated 20 million people worldwide — including the majority of British Bangladeshis (over 400,000 speakers in the UK).
It has its own ancient script, its own folk music tradition, and is still seeking recognition as a language in its own right.
👋 Join us this free online taster and discover a language with a rich oral culture, tonal sounds unlike anything in standard Bengali, and a vibrant diaspora community right here in the UK.
Whether you’re (re)connecting with your Sylheti heritage or a non-speaker curious about one of London’s most widely spoken community languages, this is going to be a great session!
